Bishkek, August 31: Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi is currently in Bishkek for the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) summit. During this visit, he met with Russian President Vladimir Putin. At the start of their bilateral meeting, Modi addressed the ongoing Ukraine conflict, emphasizing the need to transition from an endless war to a resolution for the betterment of humanity.
Expressing his pleasure at meeting Putin, Modi remarked, “My friend, it is a joy to see you. Your visit to India last year was highly successful and memorable. We spent many hours together, particularly focusing on the business landscape of Russia. Our discussions aimed to elevate and expand our economic ties. I am pleased that both our teams are fully committed to implementing the outcomes of our discussions.”
He further stated, “It is a matter of deep satisfaction that our cooperation continues to reach new heights. We are working together for the welfare of both nations, always prioritizing national interests. This will remain our guiding principle.”
Regarding the Russia-Ukraine war, Modi noted, “We have also discussed the situation in Ukraine. Last time we met, you provided me with detailed insights. India supports all efforts for peace and will continue to back every initiative aimed at achieving it. Every day spent in war pushes humanity backward, while each step taken towards peace fills us with new hope and aspirations.”
Modi called for an end to the protracted conflict, stating that it is essential for the welfare of humanity. He expressed the hope for a peaceful resolution to all issues as a call from humanity and India’s message. “The land of Gandhi and Buddha carries a single message: the path of peace. Today, we will have the opportunity to discuss all these matters.”
He also mentioned that India will soon host the BRICS summit, adding, “All Indians and the Indian delegation are eager to welcome you. Your visit will strengthen our bilateral relations and enhance dialogue and cooperation within BRICS.”
