Jaipur, August 31: A tragic road accident in Kasganj district of Uttar Pradesh early Monday morning resulted in the deaths of six individuals from Rajasthan, with nearly 20 others injured.
The victims, hailing from Karauli district, were traveling in a pickup truck for the immersion of ashes when their vehicle collided with an oncoming truck near Mohanpura, in front of Shiv Inter College.
Preliminary reports indicate that the accident occurred around 4:30 AM. The impact was so severe that six passengers died on the spot, including three women and three men.
Approximately 20 others sustained injuries, comprising seven children, six women, and seven men. Nine of the injured are reported to be in critical condition and have been referred to Aligarh after receiving initial treatment at Kasganj District Hospital. The remaining injured are being treated at the district hospital.
Local residents rushed to the scene upon hearing the crash and assisted in rescue efforts. Police and administrative teams also arrived promptly, extricating passengers trapped in the damaged pickup and transporting the injured to the hospital. After a preliminary examination, doctors declared six individuals dead. The police have sent the bodies for post-mortem examination.
Reports suggest that the truck involved in the collision was transporting animal fodder from Shahjahanpur to Jaipur. Initial information indicates that the truck may have been driving on the wrong side of the road. Authorities are also investigating whether the pickup driver fell asleep while driving. Both vehicles have been seized, and an investigation is underway.
The deceased have been identified as Umesh (26), son of Bablu, resident of Rewai village, Karauli; Prem (50), husband of Tejram, resident of Natholi Ka Pura, Suroth police station area, Karauli; Nehru (25), son of Ramkhiladi, resident of Natholi Ka Pura, Suroth police station area, Karauli; Reena (32), wife of Karamveer, resident of Salempur Kala, Bharatpur; Anjali (26), wife of Manish, resident of Rewai, Mahua Ibrahimpur police station area, Karauli; and Ramjeet/Ranjeet (33), son of Tejram, resident of Natholi Ka Pura, Hindon police station area, Karauli.
