Acid Attack in Bihar: Six Burned in Family Dispute Over Money

Motiari, August 31: In a shocking incident in the Kesariya area of East Champaran district, Bihar, six individuals, including five family members, suffered burns due to an acid-like substance during a financial dispute. Following the incident, the police have formed a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to probe the matter further.

According to police reports, the incident occurred in Old Market, Ward Number 9 of the Kesariya police station area. The conflict arose between Amit Kumar, also known as Bittu, and Praveen Prakash Singh, known as Gunjan Singh, over money transactions. Upon receiving information about the dispute, police promptly arrived at the scene to assess the situation.

Initial investigations revealed that Praveen Prakash Singh had visited Amit Kumar’s home, leading to a heated argument between the two parties. During this confrontation, an acid-like substance, reportedly used for cleaning silver, was employed.

As a result, several individuals from both sides sustained burns. The injured include Amit Kumar, his three children—Yash Kumar, Saksham Kumar, and Aroosh Kumar—and a female family member. Praveen Kumar Singh, from the opposing side, also suffered burns. All victims are currently receiving treatment at a local hospital.

Given the seriousness of the incident, the Sub-Divisional Police Officer of Chakia and the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) team inspected the scene and collected necessary evidence. Following directives from the Superintendent of Police in Motihari, an SIT has been established to investigate the case. A magistrate was also present to oversee the site inspection and ensure security arrangements.

Based on a complaint filed by Amit Kumar, a case has been registered under Kesariya police station case number 321/26. The police have named four individuals as accused, including Gunjan Singh, Prabhat Prakash, Sudhanshu Ranjan, also known as Ranjan Singh, and Shrawan Kumar. Investigations are ongoing, with police stating that further actions will be taken based on evidence collected from the scene and statements from both parties.
