New Delhi, June 6: According to the government, India is developing a digital economy based on self-reliance in innovation, entrepreneurship, and technology, which is ready for the future.
Electronics and Information Technology Minister Jitin Prasad stated that major initiatives like the ‘India Semiconductor Mission’ and ‘India AI Mission’ are paving new paths for research, manufacturing, and innovation-driven growth.
He emphasized that the government is committed to creating a favorable ecosystem through progressive policies, improved ease of doing business, and better access to technology.
Under the IT Ministry, the ‘Software Technology Parks of India’ (STPI) organized the ‘STPI Tech Summit 2026: India’s Next Leap,’ which included senior government officials, venture capitalists, and ecosystem promoters.
Prasad noted that as India progresses towards becoming a global leader in technology and innovation, institutions like STPI will play a crucial role in fostering entrepreneurship, nurturing innovation, strengthening the emerging technology ecosystem, and enabling the development of world-class solutions for the global market.
MeitY Secretary S. Krishnan remarked on STPI’s 35-year anniversary, stating that we should identify future opportunities and leverage its strong legacy to accelerate growth in emerging sectors.
One of STPI’s greatest strengths has always been its ability to bring people together—entrepreneurs, mentors, venture capitalists, and industry stakeholders—to create an environment conducive to innovation.
Krishnan added, “STPI has successfully established connections across the country, from the North-East to established technology hubs like Bengaluru, Hyderabad, and Chennai, facilitating the flow of mentorship, expertise, and capital to emerging centers.”
He mentioned that by supporting startups, promoting innovation, and attracting investment in technology, STPI can play a vital role in fulfilling the aspirations of India’s youth. Additionally, it can foster entrepreneurship and create quality job opportunities, especially in the AI sector.
STPI Director General Arvind Kumar stated that over the past 35 years, STPI has emerged as a key pillar of India’s digital economy. He highlighted that with 73 centers across the country and support for over 1,700 startups, STPI has contributed significantly to India’s IT exports, enabling technology-based growth beyond major cities and generating opportunities in Tier-2 and Tier-3 regions.
