Guwahati, August 27: The Special Task Force (STF) of Assam Police has arrested a 21-year-old man allegedly connected to the Pakistan-based Shahadat-e-Bhatti Network (SBN) in Hailakandi district.
Authorities reported that this brings the total number of arrests in this case to four.
The arrested individual has been identified as Fazal Islam Barbhuiya. He was apprehended during a joint operation conducted by the STF and Hailakandi police in the Ramnathpur area of the district.
Officials stated that he was associated with the banned organization and had been attempting to evade arrest. He was wanted under STF police station case number 06/2026, which was registered as part of an investigation into the alleged activities of the Pakistan-based network.
During the operation, security forces also seized objectionable materials and documents from the accused. Authorities are currently examining the confiscated items to determine the nature of his connection to the SBN and are working to identify other individuals linked to the network.
This arrest comes at a time when the Assam STF is intensifying its efforts against suspected militant networks across various regions of the state. Previous arrests have also been made in Dhubri, Chirang, and Barpeta districts related to this case.
With the arrest of Fazal Islam Barbhuiya, the total number of individuals detained in this matter has now reached four.
The Assam STF has ramped up its operations against suspected militant and anti-national networks. Officials indicate that the investigation is ongoing, and further arrests may occur based on evidence and potential connections to the network.
