New Delhi, 1 September (Kiran News). During the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Summit in Tianjin, China, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Russian President Vladimir Putin held a significant meeting. Prime Minister Modi stated that India and Russia have always stood shoulder to shoulder, even in the most challenging circumstances. The two leaders discussed the ongoing conflict in Ukraine, global developments, and agreed to further strengthen bilateral cooperation in energy, finance, and economic sectors.

The Prime Minister highlighted the depth and breadth of the India-Russia relationship, noting that both countries have always supported each other, even in difficult times. He emphasized that this close cooperation is not only vital for both nations but also for global peace, stability, and prosperity. Both leaders reiterated their support for deepening the special and privileged strategic partnership between the two countries.

According to the Ministry of External Affairs, the two leaders exchanged views on bilateral, regional, and global issues, with special focus on the ongoing conflict in Ukraine and recent developments related to it. Prime Minister Modi told President Putin, “We have been in continuous discussions regarding the ongoing conflict in Ukraine. We welcome all recent efforts towards peace. We hope that all sides will move forward positively. There is a need to find a path to end the conflict as soon as possible and establish lasting peace. This is the call of humanity.”

During the meeting, the two leaders also reviewed cooperation in economic, financial, and energy sectors. They expressed satisfaction over the continuous progress in these areas and committed to taking the partnership to new heights. Both sides reiterated the need to deepen their special and privileged strategic partnership.

In his opening statement, Prime Minister Modi mentioned that India looks forward to welcoming President Putin for the 23rd Annual Summit to be held in India in December. He expressed gratitude to President Putin for his support and friendship, which has given new direction to India-Russia relations. The Prime Minister also reaffirmed India’s commitment to advancing cooperation with Russia in all areas.

Several noteworthy details about the meeting emerged. President Putin wanted to travel by car to the bilateral meeting venue with Prime Minister Modi and waited for nearly ten minutes. Both leaders traveled together in the same car, discussing various issues during the journey. Even after reaching the meeting venue, they continued their conversation in the car for about 45 minutes, followed by a bilateral meeting that lasted over an hour. In this meeting, both sides held in-depth discussions to further enhance India-Russia relations.

Prime Minister Modi also shared a photo of their meeting in the car. On X, he wrote, “After participating in the proceedings at the SCO Summit venue, President Putin and I traveled together to the bilateral meeting site. Conversations with him are always insightful.”

Before the summit, Prime Minister Modi and President Vladimir Putin also met warmly, exchanging greetings and embracing as a sign of their strong friendship. Chinese President Xi Jinping was also present at the occasion. This meeting reflects the enduring strength of India-Russia relations.
