Pyongyang, 2 September (Kiran News): North Korean leader Kim Jong Un, under heavy security, departed Pyongyang for China on Tuesday aboard his special armored train. He will participate in the ‘Victory Day’ parade scheduled in Beijing on Wednesday, where he will be seen on stage with Chinese President Xi Jinping and Russian President Vladimir Putin.
According to North Korean state media Korean Central News Agency, Kim Jong Un—General Secretary of the Workers’ Party of Korea and Chairman of State Affairs of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea—left Pyongyang by train on 1 September at the invitation of Xi Jinping to attend the 80th anniversary celebrations of Victory Day in China. His train crossed the border on the morning of 2 September. Top officials from the Korean Workers’ Party and the DPRK government are accompanying Kim on this visit, which is expected to take around 24 hours, with Kim arriving in Beijing on Tuesday.
Kim Jong Un opted for the nearly 24-hour train journey from Pyongyang to Beijing over a one-hour flight. His special train, officially named ‘Taeyang-ho,’ is equipped with impenetrable security and luxurious royal amenities.

South Korean intelligence agencies believe Kim’s personal train is outfitted with bulletproof windows, impenetrable armor, radar-evading mesh, and is even equipped with mortars. Loaded with armor and advanced equipment, the Taeyang-ho travels at a speed of about 50–60 km/h, offering royal facilities and unmatched security.
Since assuming power in 2011, Kim Jong Un has made eight foreign trips between March 2018 and September 2023 (not including the current Beijing visit). For five of these trips—including two earlier Beijing visits in 2018 and 2019 and the 2019 Hanoi summit—he used this special armored train. He opted for air travel on only three foreign visits.
