India and Azerbaijan Strengthen Bilateral Ties in Recent Meeting

New Delhi, April 4: The Secretary (West) of the Ministry of External Affairs, C.B. George, met with Azerbaijan’s Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov in Baku to review India-Azerbaijan bilateral relations. They exchanged views on regional and global issues of mutual interest.

The sixth round of the India-Azerbaijan Foreign Office Consultations was also held in Baku, co-chaired by Secretary (West) and Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Elinur Mammadov.

During the meeting, a comprehensive review of the current status of bilateral relations was conducted, covering areas such as trade, technology, tourism, pharmaceuticals, energy, culture, people-to-people exchanges, and the fight against cross-border terrorism.

Secretary C.B. George also met Hikmat Hajiyev, the foreign policy advisor to the President of Azerbaijan.

Both sides agreed to hold the next round of Foreign Office Consultations at a mutually convenient date in New Delhi.

A day earlier, India’s Ambassador Abhay Kumar met with Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov and formally presented a copy of his credentials. They engaged in meaningful discussions regarding bilateral relations and regional developments.

According to Azerbaijan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the meeting reviewed the current state of relations between Azerbaijan and India and explored possibilities for further cooperation.

Both parties also exchanged views on the ongoing tensions in the Middle East. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs reported that the Indian Ambassador expressed deep gratitude to the Azerbaijani government for its assistance in evacuating Indian citizens from Iran.

Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal posted on the social media platform ‘X’, stating, “The sixth round of India-Azerbaijan Foreign Office Consultations was held in Baku, co-chaired by Secretary (West) and Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Elinur Mammadov. They conducted a comprehensive review of the current status of bilateral relations, including areas of mutual interest.”
