Islamabad, February 25: The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party, founded by Imran Khan, is dissatisfied with the treatment he is receiving for his eye condition. Consequently, PTI filed a petition on Wednesday in the country’s Supreme Court. The petition requests that the former Prime Minister be allowed to receive treatment at a hospital of his choice and consult with his personal doctors, according to local media reports.
As reported by the prominent Pakistani newspaper Dawn, PTI lawyer Sardar Latif Khosa submitted the petition following a follow-up treatment for Imran Khan. The petition names the Islamabad District Election Commissioner as the respondent, referencing the Toshakhana case in which the former Prime Minister was arrested for the first time in 2022.
In the petition, Imran Khan has recommended that he be immediately transferred to Shifa International Hospital in Islamabad for treatment by a retina specialist. The request also seeks permission for him to consult with his personal doctors, Faisal Sultan and Dr. Asim Yusuf, ensuring they remain involved in all aspects of his examination and treatment.
The petition further states, “It is also recommended that the petitioner’s family be provided accurate information and allowed proper visitation during his check-ups and treatment.”
According to Dawn, the petition requests that a signed copy of Imran Khan’s medical report and check-up results be provided to his lawyer. The lawyer has also requested proper access to Imran Khan to ensure effective representation in court and to guarantee that the petitioner receives full justice. Khosa noted that Imran Khan is 73 years old, and “his advancing age and declining health are a significant concern not only for his family but for all of Pakistan.”
He expressed that conducting medical examinations without sharing information with Imran Khan’s family or other doctors raises serious concerns. He added, “There is no information available regarding the results of the medical examination and/or procedures conducted at PIMS hospital. This secretive approach is astonishing and unacceptable under any circumstances.”
Reports of Imran Khan’s eye condition, right central retinal vein occlusion (CRVO), emerged in January. The first procedure to restore his eyesight took place on January 24, but the government disclosed this information only five days later.
Since then, the opposition has accused the government of lacking transparency and failing to provide appropriate treatment for Imran Khan, as well as preventing him from consulting with his personal doctors. The government has dismissed these allegations.
