Bokaro, September 3 (Daily Kiran) : The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has commenced an inquiry into the case of a 14-year-old girl who went missing from Bokaro six years ago. This action follows an order from the Jharkhand High Court, which prompted the CBI’s Ranchi unit to file a First Information Report (FIR) against unknown suspects. The investigation will also explore potential human trafficking and interstate connections.
On Thursday, the High Court directed the CBI director to ensure proper oversight of the investigation and submit a progress report by October 27. The girl disappeared on October 16, 2020, after leaving home for tuition and never returned. An FIR was lodged at the local police station on the same day, following a complaint from her family. Initially, the Bokaro police handled the investigation.
Despite extensive searches, the police could not gather any significant leads about the girl’s whereabouts. During the investigation, narco tests were conducted on three individuals, but these did not yield any valuable information. Frustrated by the lack of progress, the girl’s mother filed a petition with the Jharkhand High Court. During the hearings, the state government informed the court that the case had been transferred to the Criminal Investigation Department (CID). Subsequently, the CID formed a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to further probe the matter.
Under court orders, the CID submitted a progress report, indicating suspicions of human trafficking related to the girl’s disappearance. The CID also highlighted difficulties in the investigation due to technical resources and other challenges. Following this, the High Court sought opinions from both the CBI and the state government regarding the transfer of the case to the CBI. Both parties agreed to the CBI’s involvement.
After considering the views of both sides, the High Court ordered the CBI to take over the investigation. The court instructed the CID’s Additional Director General to hand over all relevant records to the CBI’s Joint Director in Ranchi. The CBI will now review the previous investigations conducted by the police and CID, and will re-examine old leads.
The investigation will focus on interstate connections, human trafficking suspicions, and available digital and technical evidence. For the family, who has been searching for their daughter for nearly six years, the CBI’s involvement brings renewed hope for concrete leads in the case.
