Important Decision Looms for CBSE Students in Middle Eastern Countries

New Delhi, March 6: The Indian Ministry of Education is set to make a crucial decision soon regarding the education and examinations of Indian students living in Middle Eastern countries, impacted by the ongoing conflict between Iran and Israel.

There is a vast network of Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) affiliated schools in Bahrain, Iran, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates. Over 200 CBSE schools serve more than 200,000 students in these regions. Many board examinations for 10th-grade students have already been canceled, while a significant decision regarding 12th-grade students is expected to be announced in New Delhi on Saturday.

In light of the current situation in several Middle Eastern countries, the CBSE has taken this major step concerning the board examinations for classes 10 and 12. The board has already sent detailed instructions to its affiliated schools in Bahrain, Iran, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and the UAE.

The board has confirmed that all class 10 examinations scheduled between March 7 and March 11 have been completely canceled. Additionally, exams that were postponed on March 2, 5, and 6 will also not take place. This means that no examinations will be conducted on these dates.

The board and the Ministry of Education will deliberate on how and when the results for class 10 students will be declared. However, a different arrangement is still in place for class 12 examinations.

The class 12 exam scheduled for March 7 has been postponed, with a new date to be announced later. The board also stated that the situation would be reassessed on March 7, after which a final decision regarding exams scheduled after March 9 will be made.

In total, there are approximately 150 CBSE-affiliated schools across these seven countries. The UAE hosts the highest number, with around 80 to 100 schools, followed by Saudi Arabia with over 40 schools.

Oman has about 21, Kuwait has around 19, and Qatar has approximately 15 to 20 CBSE-affiliated schools. Bahrain has between 3 to 8 schools, and there are also CBSE schools operating in Iran. The number of students enrolled in these schools is substantial.

Overall, nearly 300,000 students are receiving education in these schools across the Middle East, with the largest student population in the UAE. In Saudi Arabia, the number is around 80,000.

The network of CBSE schools and students in these seven countries forms a significant educational system, primarily providing Indian curriculum education to the children of Indian expatriate families residing there.
