Mumbai, February 22: A student at the Indian Institute of Technology Bombay (IIT Bombay) was found in possession of five live 7.65 mm cartridges in his hostel bag. The police have registered a case and initiated an investigation.

According to reports, security personnel received a tip-off about the cartridges in the hostel. Upon investigation, they discovered the five live cartridges in a student’s bag. The Pawai police were informed, and a case was filed against 23-year-old Sarvottam Anand Satishchandra Chaudhary under the Arms Act.

Police officials stated that a dispute over money occurred between two students on the ground floor of Hostel Number 1. The security team intervened to calm Suraj Dubey, residing in Room 93, and Aman from Room 89. During the conversation, a strong smell of alcohol was detected coming from Dubey and his friend, Apurv Mishra, prompting a search of their rooms.

During the search, five live cartridges marked “KF 7.65” were found in a black bag in Suraj Dubey’s room, valued at approximately ₹3,500. During questioning, Dubey claimed the bag belonged to Apurv Mishra. Further investigation revealed that Apurv stated the cartridges belonged to his friend Sarvottam Chaudhary, who hails from Samastipur in Bihar.

According to police, Sarvottam allegedly admitted to purchasing the cartridges from Munger in Bihar during interrogation. Consequently, the Pawai police filed a case for illegal possession and transportation of ammunition.

Authorities are now conducting an in-depth investigation into a possible illegal supply network and the motive behind the incident. Police officials mentioned that they are searching for the individual who sold the cartridges, based on Sarvottam’s information. Additionally, they are investigating to determine to whom Sarvottam may have distributed the cartridges.
