UN Chief Welcomes US-Iran Peace Agreement Announcement

New Delhi, June 15: United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has welcomed the announcement of a peace agreement between the United States and Iran. This agreement includes an immediate and permanent ceasefire, the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz, and a framework for further negotiations. This information was provided by a UN spokesperson.

Spokesperson Stephane Dujarric stated, “This is a significant step towards a peaceful resolution of the conflict.”

According to a report by Xinhua News Agency, the statement noted that the UN chief appreciated the constructive roles played by Pakistan, Qatar, Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Turkey, and other regional countries in supporting the negotiations that led to the peace agreement.

The spokesperson’s statement added, “The Secretary-General hopes that the parties involved will build on this new momentum and double their efforts towards a final resolution of the conflict. The Secretary-General has expressed the UN’s readiness to support the parties in achieving a lasting and comprehensive peace.”

Meanwhile, US President Donald Trump announced that an agreement has been reached between the US and Iran. This will allow the Strait of Hormuz to reopen and end the US Navy’s blockade. Trump described this as a significant achievement, as months of tension had shaken the global energy market and raised fears of a major regional war.

Trump stated in a social media post, “The agreement with the Islamic Republic of Iran is now complete. Congratulations to all!”

This announcement comes at a time when the world is focused on the narrow waterway that facilitates a substantial portion of global maritime oil trade. The Strait of Hormuz has been the focal point of tensions between Washington and Tehran for months, causing fluctuations in global energy prices due to shipping disruptions.

Trump emphasized that he is allowing the reopening of the waterway and the lifting of the US blockade imposed during the conflict.

He wrote, “I fully authorize the opening of the Strait of Hormuz without any fees and also permit the immediate removal of the United States’ naval blockade.”
