Agartala, June 15: In a significant operation against drug trafficking, Tripura Police seized a substantial quantity of marijuana from a suspected drug dealer’s residence in Kamalnagar village, located within the Sonamura police station jurisdiction. The authorities recovered approximately 129.8 kilograms of marijuana, valued at around 2.6 million rupees. However, the suspect managed to escape during the raid.
The operation was conducted based on confidential information received by the police, indicating that a large stash of narcotics was hidden inside a house in the Kamalnagar area. Following this tip-off, the Sonamura police quickly formed a special team and planned a late-night raid in the locality.
According to police officials, the operation involved not only searching the house but also excavating the ground. During this process, officers discovered a significant amount of dried marijuana concealed in a drum buried underground. The total weight of the seized marijuana was confirmed to be 129.8 kilograms, which was subsequently confiscated in accordance with legal procedures.
Tapas Das, the officer in charge of the Sonamura police station, stated that the entire operation was executed based on reliable intelligence. He emphasized that the police team adhered to all legal protocols during the search and properly sealed the narcotic substances. Furthermore, he mentioned that a case has been registered against the accused under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.
The officer in charge also noted that the homeowner and the suspected trafficker fled the scene during the raid. Police teams are actively pursuing leads to apprehend them. Authorities believe that there may be additional individuals involved in this drug network, and efforts are underway to identify and arrest them.
