Washington, June 15: President Donald Trump has announced that the U.S. and Iran have finalized a deal. Under this agreement, the Strait of Hormuz will reopen, and the U.S. Navy’s blockade will be lifted.
The President described this as a significant achievement after months of negotiations. The previous tensions had severely impacted global energy markets and raised fears of a major regional conflict.
In a post on Truth Social, Trump stated, “The deal with the Islamic Republic of Iran is now complete. Congratulations to all!”
This announcement comes at a time when global attention is focused on the Strait of Hormuz, a crucial route for maritime oil trade. The strait has been a hotspot of tension between Washington and Tehran for months, causing fluctuations in energy prices worldwide due to shipping disruptions.
The President confirmed his approval for reopening international maritime routes and lifting the U.S. blockade. He wrote, “I fully authorize the toll-free opening of the Strait of Hormuz. Additionally, the U.S. naval blockade will be lifted immediately. Ships around the world, start your engines. Let the oil flow.”
In another post, Trump referred to the agreement as a historic diplomatic success. He remarked, “This great deal will bring peace and security to the entire region. Many presidents have tried to make peace with Iran, and all have failed before me. For the first time, regional leaders have a president who can help them achieve real peace. After the agreement is signed on Friday, the strait will be opened to remove naval mines, allowing oil flow in both directions for the region and the world!”
However, the President did not provide details about the agreement, nor did the White House share any information regarding the deal. The White House’s announcement did not address key issues that have long been points of contention between Washington and Tehran, such as Iran’s nuclear program and the sanctions imposed by the U.S.
Nonetheless, Trump’s statements indicate that the primary focus of this agreement is to restore navigation freedom through the Strait of Hormuz and eliminate disruptions in commercial shipping.
International media reported that U.S. and Iranian negotiators, after weeks of discussions with mediators, are nearing an agreement. According to The Wall Street Journal, U.S. and Iranian officials hinted that a formal signing of the deal is expected by the end of this week, with reopening the Strait and lifting the U.S. Navy blockade being central to this arrangement.
The newspaper noted that both parties have agreed on an interim framework aimed at ending hostilities and paving the way for further discussions.
The Washington Post similarly reported that this agreement will end the U.S. blockade and reopen the strait, while other major issues will be left for future negotiations. The paper stated that discussions regarding Iran’s nuclear program and relief from sanctions are expected to continue in a separate phase.
