Hyderabad, February 17: In a significant police operation, Hyderabad authorities apprehended 23 foreign nationals who overstayed their visas. The arrests occurred during a large-scale search operation based on credible information regarding illegal residents.
The operation was conducted in the Tolichowki police station area of the Golconda zone. It took place on Monday night, focusing on Paramount Colony (Gate Numbers 1 to 4), IAS Colony, and the Hakimpet Kunta area, as reported by a police official on Tuesday.
Under the direct supervision of Golconda Zone Deputy Commissioner of Police G. Chandra Mohan, 250 police personnel were deployed for the operation. The strategic initiative involved 10 search teams, 7 cordon teams, 5 arrest teams, and 2 holding points.
The primary aim was to identify foreign nationals residing in the country after their visa periods had expired. With assistance from the Foreigners Regional Registration Office in Hyderabad, officials identified 23 foreign nationals from various countries living illegally.
In addition to detaining the illegal residents, police seized 30 two-wheelers without valid documents, 9 gas cylinders (3 large and 6 small) used for illegal refilling, and 53 bottles of alcohol.
The DCP stated that the Golconda zone police are committed to ensuring public safety and strictly enforcing residency laws. Legal action is being pursued against those violating regulations.
The nationalities of the detained individuals have not been disclosed, but many foreign nationals from African countries reside in Paramount Colony and other areas of Tolichowki.
This is not the first operation aimed at identifying illegal foreign residents in the city. In recent months, police have collaborated with agencies to repatriate foreigners who overstayed their visas. Many of these actions were linked to drug-related cases involving foreign nationals.
Last month, the Hyderabad Narcotics Enforcement Wing arrested a Nigerian citizen for illegal residency and connections to drug traffickers, subsequently deporting him to Nigeria in the interest of national security.
