Helsinki, June 12: Finland’s President Alexander Stubb has labeled India as an ‘influential nation’ on the global stage, emphasizing the importance of listening to New Delhi’s perspective. This statement was made during a meeting with Foreign Minister S. Jaishankar at the ‘Kultaranta Talks’ held in Helsinki.
Following their discussion, Stubb shared on X, “Today, we met with India’s Foreign Minister S. Jaishankar at Kultaranta. We discussed the situation in the Middle East and the Persian Gulf, efforts to end the Russia-Ukraine war, and the upcoming G-7 summit. India is an influential country, and its views are crucial.”
Both leaders exchanged thoughts on the shifting global landscape, underscoring the necessity of diplomacy in today’s uncertain environment.
Foreign Minister Jaishankar also took to X to express his satisfaction with the meeting, stating, “It was a pleasure to meet President Alexander Stubb during the Kultaranta Talks. We shared insights on the changing global situation and emphasized the importance of diplomacy in this uncertain world.”
He added, “India and Finland are committed to advancing their strategic partnership in digital technology and sustainable development, while strengthening cooperation on multilateral platforms concerning shared interests.”
Jaishankar participated in a discussion on “Emerging Powers and New Geopolitical Competition” alongside Finland’s Foreign Minister Elina Valtonen and UAE’s Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Lana Nusseibeh.
During this discussion, he noted that ongoing global conflicts do not remain confined to specific regions; their impacts are felt worldwide. Therefore, the international community must work together to mitigate the effects of these conflicts and foster an environment conducive to dialogue.
He emphasized the need to strengthen and diversify supply chains to reduce reliance on a single source.
Jaishankar reiterated that India’s energy policy is firmly based on national interests, ensuring that the country acquires affordable and accessible energy as per its needs.
He also highlighted the significance of India’s relations with Gulf nations, which are built on mutual ties, energy cooperation, and growing strategic and defense collaboration.
