Thiruvananthapuram, June 12: Rajeev Chandrasekhar, the President of the Kerala BJP, has raised concerns about the state government’s functioning, attributing the region’s economic difficulties to its policies.
In a press conference on Friday, he stated that while the nation celebrates 12 years of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership, Kerala faces unprecedented economic challenges. “It is evident that the state government is at a loss regarding how to address these issues. Their actions suggest a lack of concern for the welfare of the people,” he remarked.
Chandrasekhar questioned why the state government continues to make grand promises when it is aware of the dire economic situation. “Merely making promises is not enough; these commitments must be fulfilled on the ground for any real change to occur,” he emphasized.
Reflecting on his visit to Kerala in 2025, he urged the media to focus less on political theatrics and more on pressing issues that affect the public, particularly in health and education. “The reality is that the people are grappling with various problems, yet solutions remain elusive, leaving the state in a precarious position,” he noted.
He also criticized the recent push by the Chief Minister for privatization across all sectors. “If everything is privatized, what will happen to those who cannot afford basic expenses?” he questioned, highlighting the potential repercussions for economically disadvantaged citizens.
Chandrasekhar expressed that while celebrations of Modi’s achievements are taking place nationwide, Kerala must engage in self-reflection regarding its development progress. “We need to assess how far we have come in terms of growth. Without this introspection, our challenges will only multiply,” he warned.
Additionally, he raised concerns about the state assembly sessions, which are supposed to address public issues. “Unfortunately, we see a different scenario where former chief ministers dwell on historical matters, while the finance minister insists on keeping financial issues secret. Can we accept such a situation in our state?” he questioned, calling for a critical examination of the state’s direction.
“If we do not reflect on these matters, the future may hold even greater challenges for us,” he concluded.
