Mumbai, May 8: Congress leader Hussain Dalwai has addressed the ongoing controversy surrounding ‘Vande Mataram’, stating that there should be no opposition to the first two verses of the song.
In a conversation in Mumbai, Dalwai emphasized the need for clarity regarding this song. “We are not against the first two verses. I have repeatedly stated that I have no objection to ‘Vande Mataram’. However, I oppose the deliberate attempt to provoke Muslims by reciting the entire song,” he said.
He noted that the song is sung in RSS branches, and everyone should oppose that. However, he insisted that no one should oppose the first two verses of ‘Vande Mataram’. “If any Muslim opposes them, it is wrong. I also oppose singing the entire song that references deities,” he added.
Dalwai explained that the first two verses do not mention any deities. These two verses have been accepted as the national song. Historical figures like Maulana Azad and Khan Abdul Gaffar Khan chanted ‘Vande Mataram’ while in jail. Therefore, opposing these two verses would be incorrect. He criticized those who intentionally include the next three verses, calling it completely wrong and against Muslims and the nation. “The country agrees that ‘Vande Mataram’ will remain in its original form,” he asserted.
On the issue of making Marathi mandatory for auto drivers, Dalwai expressed that it is unreasonable to expect auto drivers to know Marathi while officials do not. “It is surprising. People should learn the local language after coming to Maharashtra. They should know Marathi,” he stated.
Regarding West Bengal, Dalwai mentioned that BJP members could better inform who their Chief Ministerial face would be. He noted the difficulties of managing a government that came to power in the current manner. “People in Bengal do not trust the results. They believe that goondaism is used every time. They think they can rule the country by controlling the Election Commission. This is absolutely wrong. Mamata Banerjee is fighting against this, and Rahul Gandhi has also stated that we will not tolerate it. We need to unite nationally and launch a significant movement against this,” he said.
On reports of internal differences within the Kerala Congress, Dalwai reassured that there would be no internal strife. “The decision made by the high command will be acceptable to all leaders,” he concluded.
