Humayun Kabir Announces Son as Candidate for Rejingar By-Election

Murshidabad, August 23: Humayun Kabir, Chairman of the Aam Janata Unnayan Party (AJUP) and a sitting MLA, has made a significant announcement regarding the upcoming Rejingar by-election. Kabir declared that his son, Ghulam Nabi Azad, also known as Robin, will be the party’s candidate, expressing complete confidence in their victory. He emphasized that the primary competition will be against the BJP, while other parties will merely contest for NOTA (None of the Above).

Kabir stated, “I have already declared my son as the candidate for the Rejingar assembly by-election. I have full faith in Ghulam Nabi Azad. The people of Rejingar elected me by defeating the BJP with a margin of 59,000 votes and pushing the TMC to third place with 81,000 votes. Therefore, I am confident that my son will win.”

He pointed out that although the by-election has not yet been officially announced, the BJP has already begun its campaign. “I am 110% confident of my victory, which is why I am entering the election fray early. The competition is solely with the BJP; other parties do not matter. Those who contest will be fighting for NOTA, while my party will directly confront the BJP,” he added.

On the Annapurna scheme, Kabir remarked that if financial assistance is provided to women, it should be equitable. “If one woman receives aid while another does not, there will be complaints. Assistance should be given to those who are unemployed or have low incomes. If we provide benefits to some and not others, it will lead to issues,” he explained.

Regarding the recent protests at Jantar Mantar over reservations, he stated, “Reservation should be implemented nationwide for SC-ST and minorities, and they must benefit from it. The country is currently being run by the upper class. Some argue that reservations should be abolished and replaced with economic criteria. Those in power, in the Lok Sabha, are responsible for determining the laws and amendments. I have no right to comment on that.”

Commenting on the incident at Jadavpur University, he criticized Dilip Ghosh for making sensational statements to remain in the media spotlight. “His government and administration have failed; their police cannot maintain law and order. What relevance does a surgical strike have in this context? Does he expect to send CRPF and BSF to Jadavpur?” he questioned, noting the conflicting statements from the education minister and local female legislators.

Kabir further mentioned that central forces are still present in the area, having arrived a month before the elections. “There is a school just 300 meters from my home, which has been turned into a camp, housing 150 CRPF personnel. All police stations are under the SP’s jurisdiction, so I need to ask the Home Minister why 50 additional companies were deployed,” he concluded.
