Haridwar, 29 August (Kiran News). Heavy rainfall has caused widespread waterlogging in Haridwar, resulting in water entering people’s homes and causing significant damage. Residents across several areas are facing difficulties as many streets and houses have been inundated. Vehicles got stuck on flooded roads, and the administration is working on war footing to clear the water.
Not only the hilly regions, but the plains of the state have also been badly affected by the rain. Torrential downpours on Thursday evening and Friday morning have especially disrupted life in the pilgrimage city. The intense rainfall led to severe waterlogging in several parts of Haridwar, making life difficult for locals. In Subhashnagar, a seasonal drain overflowed, and a drunken man who got trapped while trying to cross it was rescued with much effort. Many vehicles got stuck in the swift flow of the Sukhi river. At Ranipur Mod, several vehicles were submerged due to flooding. Heavy waterlogging was reported from areas like Kankhal, Jwalapur, Bhimgoda, and Bhupatwala, with many shops and houses suffering extensive water damage.
District Magistrate Mayur Dixit directed officials to drain water from affected areas. Teams from various departments worked quickly to remove water using pumps at locations such as Bhagat Singh Chowk and Chandracharya Chowk. Similar drainage work was carried out near CCR, Alaknanda, and Bhagirathi hotels.
Haridwar SDM Jitendra Kumar informed that pumps were used to drain water in Kankhal Sandesh Nagar Colony. Municipal Health Officer Dr. Gambhir Teliyan stated that debris blocking the road near Vishnu Ghat vegetable market and Mansa Devi Chowk (Brahmpuri) was immediately cleared to ease traffic, providing relief to residents.
