PM Modi Praises Entrepreneur Chimib Ongmu Bhutia, She Expresses Gratitude

Gangtok, April 27: Prime Minister Narendra Modi recently commended Chimib Ongmu Bhutia, the founder of Lagstal Studio, during his ‘Mann Ki Baat’ program. In an interview with a news agency, Bhutia expressed her gratitude, stating, “I am still speechless. My hair stood on end. I am thankful to our Prime Minister for mentioning us in ‘Mann Ki Baat.’ This is a tremendous opportunity for us and many other entrepreneurs. It motivates us to work even harder.”

Bhutia highlighted the vast bamboo resources in Northeast India. She emphasized the need to transform the current situation into a source of income, stating, “We require a proper plan to achieve this, focusing on research and manpower.”

She noted the challenges faced by entrepreneurs in the bamboo sector. “Many like me are working in this field, and I hope this recognition leads to better funding and access to researchers. Reaching that level has been a significant challenge so far.”

Funding remains a major hurdle, but Bhutia is optimistic. “The Prime Minister has also spoken about promoting this sector in ‘Mann Ki Baat,’ so I am confident that we will see substantial opportunities in bamboo in the future.”

She reiterated the importance of the ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’ initiative, highlighting bamboo as a key product. “If we focus more on existing policies, we can achieve great things in the bamboo sector.”

Bhutia expressed her appreciation for the policies implemented for bamboo reconstruction and improvement. “I owe my current success to these policies. This initiative is commendable, and many in Northeast India, around 2,000 to 3,000 people, have benefited from it. I will always be grateful to the Prime Minister for his efforts in our region.”

She recalled the introduction of the revamped National Bamboo Mission in 2017, which has aided many. “I started a handicraft business related to bamboo, and that policy has significantly supported me. I owe much of my success to it.”

Bhutia believes there are countless opportunities in the bamboo sector. “We just need to focus more, conduct research, and bring new ideas. There is no shortage of opportunities here. My message to entrepreneurs is that success does not come overnight; it is a long journey that requires hard work.”

She shared her own experience, stating, “I have worked hard for 8-10 years. I believe I deserve this success. I am grateful to the Prime Minister for recognizing my work. He advises hard work and patience. When starting a startup, don’t expect overnight success. It doesn’t work that way. You must work hard and be patient. When your work speaks for itself, you won’t need to say anything.”
