Kremlin Asserts Russia Is Not a Threat to Europe Amidst Western Tensions

Moscow, April 27: Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov reiterated on Sunday that Russia is a crucial part of the Eurasian continent and should not be labeled as a “main threat” to Europe.

According to a report by the Russian news agency TASS, Peskov stated in an interview with Vesti News that Russia is being portrayed as an “external enemy” for propaganda purposes.

He emphasized that Russia cannot be the primary threat to Europe, asserting that, regardless of opinions, Russia is an integral part of Europe as a Eurasian nation.

Peskov noted that European countries are facing deepening crises related to security, economy, identity, and values. He remarked that European leaders cannot place the blame for all their domestic issues solely on Russia. Russia has consistently maintained that it has no intention of attacking Europe.

On April 24, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov stated that Western nations have declared war on Russia with the assistance of Ukraine.

He claimed that an open war has been declared against them, and the Kyiv regime is being used as a “leading force.” However, he pointed out that this so-called “leading force” is ineffective without Western weapons, intelligence, satellite systems, military training, and other support.

The European Union (EU) has finalized a loan of 90 billion euros for Ukraine. European Council President Antonio Costa announced this on April 23. This loan was decided by the European Council in December 2025 and will be used to meet Ukraine’s most urgent budget and defense needs in 2026 and 2027.

Earlier this month, Costa stated that Europe is firmly united in supporting Ukraine without wavering. He also mentioned that the council has adopted its 20th sanctions package against Russia to diminish its capacity to wage war.
