
Chennai, April 27: In a stunning display of skill, the Gujarat Titans (GT) defeated the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) by 8 wickets in the 37th match of IPL 2026 on Sunday. Chasing a target of 159 runs set by CSK, the Titans achieved their goal with 20 balls to spare, losing only 2 wickets in the process.
This match marked CSK’s second-largest defeat at home in terms of runs. Their record for the biggest loss at home still stands against the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), who defeated CSK by 59 runs in IPL 2025.
The Titans started their innings strongly, with openers Sai Sudharsan and Shubman Gill putting together a partnership of 58 runs in just 6.2 overs. Gill scored 33 runs off 23 balls before being dismissed. Sudharsan then found a solid partner in Jos Buttler, and together they formed a crucial second-wicket partnership of 97 runs off 60 balls. Sudharsan continued his excellent form, scoring a remarkable 87 runs off 46 balls, including 4 fours and 7 sixes. Buttler remained unbeaten with 39 runs off 30 balls.
Earlier, CSK struggled to post a competitive total, finishing their innings at 158 runs for the loss of 7 wickets. The team’s start was disappointing, with Sanju Samson scoring just 11 runs and Urvil Patel contributing only 4. Sarfaraz Khan was dismissed without scoring, and Dewald Brevis managed only 2 runs before being sent back by Manav Suthar.
Shivam Dube added 22 runs, while Kartik Sharma scored 15. Jamie Overton contributed a quick 18 runs off 6 balls. However, amidst the fall of wickets, Ruturaj Gaikwad played a captain’s knock, scoring 74 runs off 60 balls, with the help of 6 fours and 4 sixes.
