Kabul, April 27: The Afghan Ministry of Interior announced that law enforcement agencies have arrested 80 individuals on drug trafficking charges during operations across various provinces.
According to the Xinhua News Agency, the ministry reported that police targeting narcotics conducted raids in multiple areas, leading to the seizure of a significant amount of illegal substances. This included hashish, narcotic pills, and materials used in heroin production.
The statement emphasized that these arrests are part of a nationwide campaign aimed at curbing drug trafficking and dismantling its networks.
Officials reiterated their commitment to intensifying actions against the production, trafficking, and sale of narcotics. On April 15, Kary Wahidullah Matavakil, the provincial director of counter-narcotics, revealed that police in Khost province, eastern Afghanistan, publicly destroyed over 100 kilograms of various drugs, including hashish, heroin, opium, and thousands of stimulant pills. However, he did not provide further details.
The official stated that no one is permitted to produce or traffic illegal drugs in the province, and strict actions will be taken against violators.
In recent months, the Afghan government has intensified its crackdown on drugs. Police have destroyed hundreds of acres of opium cultivation across the country and incinerated several tons of narcotics.
According to a statement from the provincial police office, on February 23, police in Takhar province, northern Afghanistan, arrested two traffickers and seized 41 kilograms of drugs from them. The suspects were attempting to transport 29 kilograms of opium and 12 kilograms of hashish out of the province. The Afghan government has pledged to continue its fight against the production and trafficking of illegal drugs until the country is completely free from this issue.
