Kolkata, September 10 (Daily Kiran) : The Regional Meteorological Center in Kolkata has announced the possibility of a new low-pressure area forming in the Bay of Bengal, which may bring light to moderate rainfall across South Bengal over the next three days.
According to a weather department official, heavy rainfall is likely in some western districts and coastal areas of South 24 Parganas. Additionally, there is a chance of heavy rain and thunderstorms in various parts of South Bengal.
In North Bengal, isolated thunderstorms may also occur, with heavy rainfall expected to resume on Friday.
The official stated that a yellow warning has been issued for heavy rainfall in East Midnapore, West Midnapore, and South 24 Parganas. Other districts may experience thunderstorms, accompanied by strong winds reaching speeds of 30 to 40 kilometers per hour. No heavy rainfall warnings have been issued for other areas.
On Friday, a yellow warning for heavy rain will be in effect for the districts of Darjeeling, Jalpaiguri, and Kalimpong. A similar warning will continue on Saturday for Darjeeling, Kalimpong, Alipurduar, Cooch Behar, and Jalpaiguri.
On Sunday, heavy rainfall warnings will be issued for Darjeeling and Jalpaiguri, with rainfall expected to decrease in North Bengal starting Monday.
Meanwhile, Kolkata may see light to moderate rain with thunderstorms and strong winds at speeds of 30 to 40 kilometers per hour. If the rain does not occur, humidity could cause discomfort. Rainfall is expected to lessen from Sunday, although humidity and temperatures may rise slightly.
On Wednesday, Kolkata recorded a maximum temperature of 32.02 degrees Celsius, which is 0.03 degrees below normal, while the minimum temperature was 25.09 degrees Celsius, also slightly below normal. Relative humidity levels were high, with a maximum of 95 percent and a minimum of 68 percent.
