Thiruvananthapuram, September 11 (Daily Kiran) : Alan, previously arrested in the controversial Pantheerankavu UAPA case in 2019, has brought attention back to former Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan’s old “tea” remark. On Friday, Alan shared a pointed message on social media aimed at Vijayan, his daughter T. Veena Vijayan, and son-in-law P.A. Mohammad Riyas, all of whom are currently under investigation by the Enforcement Directorate (ED).
In his post, Alan stated, “Pinarayi Vijayan, Riyas, and Veena, let me just say this: you did not go there to drink tea.” This comment recalls Vijayan’s words from November 2019, made after the arrest of Alan and his friend Thaha Fazal by the Kerala Police. Both were accused of having links to Maoists and faced charges under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA), sparking significant political controversy. They were perceived as supporters of the CPI-M, and even some leftist factions questioned the decision to invoke UAPA against them.
When asked about the arrests, Vijayan had quipped to the media, “They didn’t go there for tea, did they?” This statement has now resurfaced in political discourse years later, as Alan revisits the incident.
The ED has initiated action against Vijayan, Riyas, Veena, and others under the Prevention of Corruption Act, based on its investigation into financial transactions involving CMRL-Exlogic. The agency submitted a 25-page report to state police chief Ravada A. Chandrasekhar, complete with supporting documents. Alan, however, refrained from elaborating in his social media post, choosing instead to echo Vijayan’s own words.
