New Delhi, August 8: Heavy rainfall is anticipated in various parts of India this Saturday. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted widespread rain in the northwest, central, eastern, northeastern, western, and peninsular regions.
According to the IMD’s forecast released on Friday night, several areas may experience heavy to very heavy rainfall. Additionally, thunderstorms, lightning, and strong winds are expected in some parts of the country. The weather department has advised people to exercise caution in areas prone to flooding, waterlogging, and other rain-related issues.
In northern India, moderate to heavy rainfall is expected in Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand, while Haryana, Chandigarh, and Delhi may also see significant rain on Saturday. Eastern Uttar Pradesh and western Rajasthan are forecasted to receive heavy rainfall in some areas, with eastern Rajasthan likely to experience heavy to very heavy rain.
In eastern India, widespread rainfall is anticipated in Odisha, the Gangetic plains of West Bengal, sub-Himalayan West Bengal, and Sikkim. A warning for very heavy rainfall has been issued for Odisha on August 8, with Bihar also expected to see continued widespread rain.
The northeastern states are likely to face adverse weather conditions as well. Heavy rainfall is predicted in Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, and other northeastern regions. In western India, Konkan and Goa are expected to receive substantial rainfall, with parts of Maharashtra and Gujarat also likely to experience rain.
Southern and peninsular India is also forecasted to see considerable rainfall. The IMD has predicted heavy rain in coastal Karnataka and southern interior Karnataka on August 8, with some areas possibly experiencing very heavy rainfall. Thunderstorms, lightning, and strong winds are also expected in parts of Karnataka, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, and Andhra Pradesh.
The IMD has warned fishermen to avoid venturing into the sea in several areas, including off the coasts of Oman, Karnataka, and Kerala, due to adverse weather conditions.
Meanwhile, on Friday, heavy downpours in Delhi and the National Capital Region (NCR) led to waterlogging on roads, traffic disruptions, and numerous emergency incidents across the area.
The most severe waterlogging was reported on MB Road in South Delhi, particularly near the Air Force Station, where water levels reportedly reached nearly four feet, stranding vehicles and causing significant traffic delays. Reports indicate that several motorcycles and auto-rickshaws stalled after entering flooded roads, while Air Force trucks were deployed to assist in affected areas.
Traffic remained slow on several major routes, including ITO, Patel Road, Rohtak Road, Wazirabad Road, Kirti Nagar, Shaheen Bagh, the Delhi-Jaipur highway, and around the Badarpur border metro station. Waterlogged subways and submerged roads further complicated travel for commuters.
