Sana, August 8: Houthi forces launched missile and drone attacks on military bases in Marib Province, Yemen, on Friday. This information was confirmed by a Yemeni military source and local residents. The attacks come a day after reports indicated that several government soldiers were killed in Houthi assaults in Marib and the neighboring Hadhramaut region.
According to a military source, Houthi forces targeted multiple government military camps, including the headquarters of the Third Military Region located in Marib city. Local residents reported hearing several loud explosions during the attacks.
Local media, as reported by Xinhua News Agency, also confirmed missile and drone strikes on military installations in and around Marib.
Currently, there is no official information regarding the extent of damage or casualties from these attacks. The Houthi group has not issued an immediate response to the incidents.
On Thursday, the Houthi group claimed to have conducted a “large-scale military operation” against government forces in eastern Marib and Hadhramaut, asserting that “hundreds were killed” in the process.
In a statement broadcast on Houthi-controlled Al-Masirah TV, military spokesperson Yahya Saree stated that the attacks targeted military bases in the Ruwaik area of Marib and the Thaniyah and Al-Abar regions of Hadhramaut. These included camps of the recently formed Saudi Arabia-backed Yemeni emergency forces’ First and Third Divisions, along with troop gatherings.
Saree claimed that many government soldiers were killed or injured in these attacks. He also mentioned that several military vehicles, weapon depots, and other military facilities were destroyed or set ablaze. Additionally, military bases located near the Yemen-Saudi Arabia border in the Al-Wadi’ah area were also targeted.
He stated that the operation was initiated after Houthi forces observed large-scale military preparations from Saudi Arabia, which they claimed had reached the “final phase.” Saree accused Riyadh of preparing for a major ground military operation against Houthi-controlled areas.
He warned Saudi Arabia against escalating tensions further, asserting that Houthi forces are “fully prepared to face any situation.” He added that the group would continue its strategy of “blockade in response to blockade” until restrictions imposed on Houthi-controlled areas are lifted.
