New Delhi, August 8: India and Russia have agreed to enhance bilateral cooperation in strategic sectors such as railway transport, unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), SJ-100 regional aircraft, and critical minerals. This agreement was reached during the 12th meeting of the India-Russia working group held on Friday.
The meeting took place at the Commerce Building in the national capital, under the auspices of the India-Russia Intergovernmental Commission on Trade, Economic, Scientific, Technical, and Cultural Cooperation.
The Indian delegation was led by Amardeep Singh Bhatia, Secretary of the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT) under the Ministry of Commerce and Industry. The Russian side was co-chaired by Alexey Gruzdev, Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade of Russia.
During the meeting, discussions focused on new collaborative opportunities in the railway sector, including the development of railway infrastructure, the Vande Bharat train project, and modern signaling equipment. Both nations also explored possibilities for modernizing the railway network and enhancing technical cooperation.
Additionally, topics such as UAVs, 3D printing technology, the production of Russia’s SJ-100 regional passenger aircraft, and collaboration in the aerospace engine sector were discussed. The SJ-100 is a narrow-body jet capable of carrying approximately 103 passengers.
The two countries also addressed cooperation in carbon fiber technology, propulsion systems, the supply of DAP and NPK fertilizers, industrial automation, and critical minerals.
Moreover, they reached an agreement to enhance collaboration in lithium mining, titanium technology, the aluminum sector, mining equipment manufacturing, and the exploration of rare earth elements.
The meeting reviewed progress since the 11th session and evaluated the work of various sub-groups related to modernization, mining, fertilizers, and railway transport.
According to an official statement released after the meeting, the 12th session emphasized key areas such as modern industrialization, science and technology, aerospace, railway infrastructure, fertilizers and chemicals, rare earth elements, critical minerals, renewable energy capacity building, energy engineering, industrial infrastructure, mining equipment, the aluminum industry, and joint ventures for urea production.
During the meeting, representatives from both countries signed the protocol document for the 12th session, reaffirming their commitment to strengthening the strategic partnership and elevating industrial and economic cooperation to new heights. Approximately 60 representatives from both nations participated in the meeting.
