Five Arrested in Police Encounter with Electric Wire Theft Gang in Bahraich

Bahraich, August 8: In Bahraich district of Uttar Pradesh, police have arrested five members of a gang involved in stealing electric wires following an encounter. This success comes as part of an ongoing campaign against criminals in the region.

Police officials reported that the five notorious criminals were surrounded in the Nanpara area along the Saryu canal bank. When confronted by the police, the criminals opened fire. In response, the police acted in self-defense.

During the encounter, one notorious gang member, Kadeer, was injured by a bullet in the leg and was sent to the hospital for treatment. Four other suspects were apprehended at the scene, while one accomplice managed to escape.

Authorities recovered an illegal firearm, cartridges, a car, tools, and a significant amount of stolen electric wire from the criminals. Upon receiving information about the incident, the Superintendent of Police arrived with a forensic team to assess the situation.

SP Vishwajit Srivastava stated that there had been a series of electric wire thefts in the Nanpara area over the past few days. These thefts had disrupted power supply in certain areas, causing public distress. To apprehend the wire thieves, both the SWAT team and local police were deployed.

He added that police received a tip-off indicating that some wire thieves were planning another theft along the Saryu canal bank and were attempting to dispose of previously stolen wires. Acting on this information, the police team surrounded the suspects. During the confrontation, the criminals fired at the team, resulting in one suspect being shot in the leg while the others were arrested. SP Vishwajit Srivastava confirmed that further action is underway in this case.
