Heavy Rain Forecast in Jammu and Kashmir from August 10 to 12, Landslide Risks Expected

Srinagar, August 8: Jammu and Kashmir has been experiencing continuous rainfall over the past few days. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted light to moderate rain in several parts of the region from August 10 to 12, with some areas likely to see moderate to heavy rainfall. During this period, there is a risk of flash floods, landslides, and falling rocks in sensitive areas.

Meteorologist Barham Pal from the IMD Srinagar center stated that the weather in Jammu and Kashmir is currently relatively stable. However, light to moderate rain is expected in southern Kashmir and parts of the Pir Panjal region over the next couple of days. Light rain is also anticipated in northern and central Kashmir.

The weather department is monitoring a new system that is expected to develop after August 10. This system may enhance rainfall activities between August 10 and 12, with light to moderate rain likely in southern Kashmir, the Pir Panjal region, and several areas of Jammu. Some parts of Jammu may experience moderate to heavy rainfall.

The weather department has advised special caution for certain districts. Moderate to heavy rainfall is expected in areas like Kathua, Ramban, and the Pir Panjal region, as well as in southern Kashmir’s Shopian, Anantnag, and Pulwama. This could lead to sudden water rises and flash flood situations in low-lying areas.

The rainfall may also impact road and traffic conditions, particularly on national highways and in the Pir Panjal region, where landslides, falling rocks, and debris on roads are anticipated. This could disrupt traffic for some time.

Meteorologists have advised travelers and the general public to check traffic conditions before traveling to hilly areas between August 10 and 12. It is advisable to avoid sensitive routes without necessary information.

Currently, the weather department does not predict extremely heavy rainfall across Jammu and Kashmir. Most areas are expected to receive light to moderate rain, but localized events such as sudden floods, landslides, and rockfalls may occur in some sensitive locations.
