New Delhi, May 20: Severe heat across various parts of the country has disrupted daily life. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued red and orange alerts in several states, while doctors are advising caution during the heatwave.
Ajay Rana, the Chief Medical Officer of Noida, spoke with a news agency, stating that guidelines are issued by the government as summer approaches. In line with these guidelines, a cold room has been established, equipped with modern facilities and medications. Medical staff are available in the emergency department and ICU for any urgent needs.
He emphasized that children, the elderly, and those with health issues should take extra precautions to avoid heat-related illnesses. People are advised to refrain from going outside during the afternoon. If necessary, early morning or evening outings are preferable. Wearing light-colored, loose-fitting cotton clothing and increasing fluid intake are essential to prevent dehydration. Residents should remain vigilant and visit hospitals if they experience any health issues. All health department facilities are available to assist.
The situation in Delhi and across North India continues to deteriorate due to extreme heat. The weather department has issued red and orange alerts for several states. In many areas of Delhi, Rajasthan, Haryana, Punjab, and Uttar Pradesh, temperatures have soared above 45 degrees Celsius. Naresh Kumar, a scientist at the IMD, indicated that this heatwave is expected to persist for about seven days.
He noted that conditions in the Himalayan states of Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, and Uttarakhand may change in two days, potentially bringing rain and a drop in temperatures. A red alert has been issued for Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, and Vidarbha, while an orange alert is in place for other states, including the Delhi-NCR region.
