Hardik Pandya Faces Injury Setback Ahead of ODI Series Against Afghanistan

New Delhi, June 10: Team India has received troubling news ahead of the ODI series against Afghanistan. Star all-rounder Hardik Pandya may miss the series due to an injury.

Pandya is dealing with a minor foot injury, making his participation in the ODI series uncertain. During IPL 2026, he had missed several matches for the Mumbai Indians due to back spasms. Since June 2, he has been at the BCCI Centre of Excellence (COE), where it was initially expected that he would be cleared to play in the ODI series.

While Pandya appeared fit during fitness tests at the COE, participating in batting, bowling, and fielding drills, the recent injury has cast doubt on his availability for the series starting June 13. Sources have indicated that the COE had initially given him the green light for the series against Afghanistan. However, it has now been revealed that he has sustained a minor injury, requiring several weeks for recovery.

This means he will not be fully fit for the ODI series and will focus on his rehabilitation at the COE. If Pandya is unable to participate, it would be a significant blow for the Indian team, as he contributes both with the bat and ball. He is also a crucial part of India’s plans for the ODI World Cup in 2027.

Pandya last played an ODI during the Champions Trophy 2025 and has not featured in any one-day matches since then. His wait to return to the field has now extended further. It will be interesting to see if he can regain fitness in time for the three-match ODI series against England in July. Prior to Pandya’s injury, Virat Kohli had also been ruled out of the ODI series due to a hamstring injury, with Yashasvi Jaiswal being called up to replace him.
