New Delhi, August 6: Fast bowler Brijesh Sharma will represent his home state of Jammu and Kashmir in the upcoming domestic cricket season (2026-27). Hailing from the town of Mada in Udhampur district, Brijesh has made headlines during the IPL 2026 season while playing for the Rajasthan Royals (RR).
For the IPL auction, Brijesh registered himself as a player with the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB). A reliable source from the Jammu and Kashmir Cricket Association (JKCA) confirmed on Thursday, “Yes, Brijesh Sharma has joined the Jammu and Kashmir team for the Ranji Trophy. He is currently with the team for the preparation camp.”
Brijesh is among the players from Jammu and Kashmir who will participate in a practice match against Uttarakhand from August 10 to 17 at SK Stadium in Srinagar. He has previously played for Jammu and Kashmir’s age-group teams before moving to Delhi for training under coach Deepak Puniya. His impressive performance in the 2025 Bengal Pro T20 League earned him an IPL contract.
In his debut season with the Rajasthan Royals in IPL 2026, Brijesh took 14 wickets in 13 matches. RR acquired him at a base price of ₹3 million during the auction.
Although Brijesh has yet to play first-class cricket, he will kick off his first-class career with Jammu and Kashmir in the upcoming season. Notably, Jammu and Kashmir is the reigning Ranji Trophy champion, having made history by defeating the strong Karnataka team to claim their first Ranji title. Last season, right-arm fast bowler Aaqib Nabi, who had a memorable performance for Jammu and Kashmir, was selected for the Indian Test squad against Sri Lanka, becoming the first player from the state to achieve this milestone.
