New Delhi, March 24: The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has appointed former captain Habibul Bashar as the head of its newly formed four-member selection committee. This committee will operate until the Bangladesh team is selected for the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2027, scheduled to take place in Africa between October and November next year.
The BCB made this change in the selection committee after former chairman Gazi Ashraf Hossain decided not to renew his contract, which was set to expire in February 2026.
In a statement, the BCB noted, “The 53-year-old Bashar brings a wealth of experience to this role. He has previously served as a national selector for both the men’s and women’s teams in Bangladesh. Bashar is also the first Bangladeshi player to score 3,000 runs in Test cricket and remains one of the most respected figures in the country’s cricketing history.”
The statement further mentioned, “Joining Bashar in the committee is former Bangladesh fast bowler Hasibul Hossain, who was part of the previous selection committee led by Gazi Ashraf Hossain since September 2025. The committee will also include Naim Islam and Nadif Chowdhury. The 39-year-old Naim had a successful playing career spanning two decades, amassing over 20,000 runs across all formats and holding the national record for the most first-class centuries by a Bangladeshi player with 34 centuries.”
The BCB added, “The 38-year-old Nadif Chowdhury also brings two decades of playing experience, including T20 international matches for Bangladesh. Since retiring, he has been actively involved in nurturing player talent and has worked as an ‘Age Group Selector’ under the BCB.”
