Gandhinagar, June 5: On the occasion of World Environment Day, Gujarat’s Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel urged citizens to plant more trees and turn environmental protection into a public movement. He emphasized that safeguarding the environment is not solely a government initiative but a responsibility shared by every individual.
The Chief Minister highlighted the completion of 12 years of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s government, noting significant initiatives for green development and environmental conservation in the country. He encouraged people not only to plant trees but also to nurture them, conserve water, and reduce petrol consumption.
Patel stated that the duty of protecting the environment lies with each citizen at their level. He called for viewing tree planting as a community participation campaign rather than just a program.
In a message shared on the social media platform X, the Chief Minister remarked that Indian culture reveres nature, treating it as a mother. Worshipping trees, rivers, and mountains has been an integral part of our lifestyle.
He mentioned that by adopting Prime Minister Modi’s vision of ‘Green Growth’ and ‘Mission Life,’ Gujarat has become one of the leading states in the country for renewable energy, tree planting, and environmental protection.
The Chief Minister urged citizens to express gratitude towards nature, commit to planting more trees, conserve water, and embrace a plastic-free lifestyle. He noted that today’s efforts will ensure a green and livable Earth for future generations.
In Rajkot, special programs were also organized for World Environment Day. Under the ‘One Tree in the Name of Mother’ campaign, plants were distributed at various locations.

A social organization distributed over 5,000 fruit-bearing and other species of plants for free. There was considerable excitement among people to receive and plant these saplings. The program aimed to engage as many individuals as possible in environmental conservation and tree planting.
Additionally, a special tree planting event was held at the BSF campus in Gandhinagar to promote the message of environmental protection, where a large number of saplings were planted.
During the event, BSF DIG Prakhar Trivedi, Ajay Suryavanshi, and IPS officer Abhishek Pathak initiated the campaign by planting trees. Many senior BSF officials and personnel were also present.
BSF officials reported that a total of 6,750 plants would be planted at various locations as part of World Environment Day initiatives.
