Gandhinagar, September 9 (Daily Kiran) : Gujarat’s Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel inaugurated a demonstration of the ‘Bheeshm Cube-R300’ on Wednesday. This innovative portable mobile emergency hospital is designed to provide trauma care and essential medical services within minutes during disasters and emergencies.
The event took place in the Gujarat Assembly, attended by Assembly Speaker Shankar Chaudhary, Deputy Chief Minister Harsh Sanghvi, Health Minister Praful Panseriya, and other cabinet members and legislators.
Leaders also viewed a short film highlighting the emergency medical system. The Bheeshm Cube-R300 was developed under the ‘Arogya Maitri’ initiative, guided by the National Security Council Secretariat (NSCS) of the central government.
According to Panseriya, the two-day exhibition, held on September 9 and 10, aims to familiarize the public with emergency healthcare systems during crises and natural disasters. The exhibition features telemedicine, digital health technology, advanced logistics, and robust healthcare infrastructure.
Panseriya explained that the Bheeshm Cube-R300 can be deployed in complex or emergency situations within minutes. It is capable of providing trauma care, emergency surgeries, diagnostic services, and other life-saving treatments at the site of an incident.
The entire system is packed into 72 modular mini-cubes, each weighing less than 20 kilograms and can be assembled in under 12 minutes. It can simultaneously treat around 300 injured individuals. The system is transportable by road, air, or sea and can even be air-dropped in remote areas.
Panseriya described the portable hospital as a significant achievement in disaster preparedness. It includes nearly 400 medical items, such as ventilators, multi-parameter monitors, a mini-laboratory, and surgical instruments. The unit also features facilities for immediate ‘damage control surgery’ at the incident site.
Equipped with its own power generation and oxygen supply systems, the unit can operate independently during emergencies.
Panseriya noted that the central government has sent these cubes to countries like Ukraine, Maldives, Jamaica, Venezuela, and Sri Lanka to assist during humanitarian crises and natural disasters.
Given Gujarat’s extensive coastline, industrial areas, and the risks of cyclones, floods, and earthquakes, emergency medical preparedness is crucial for the state. He emphasized that deploying the Bheeshm Cube will enhance the capacity to respond during disasters. Senior officials from the Health and Family Welfare Department, the Gujarat State Disaster Management Authority (GSDMA), and the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) were also present at the demonstration.
Among those in attendance were Additional Chief Secretary Rajiv Topno, Urban Health Commissioner Dr. Sandhya Bhullar, and Rural Health Commissioner Dr. Ratan Kanwar Gadhvi, along with a large number of school students participating in the event.
