New Delhi, October 4 (Daily Kiran) : Imran Masood, the newly appointed executive president of the Uttar Pradesh Congress Committee and a sitting MP, addressed several pressing issues on Saturday in Bengaluru. He spoke candidly about Captain Smita Machhar, the ongoing SIR controversy, and a recent post by Akhilesh Yadav on social media.
Masood praised Captain Machhar for her bravery, stating, “Captain Smita Machhar saved her life and the lives of others. We salute her courage. The BJP has turned this into an event. They have a tendency to make everything an event.” He expressed frustration over the BJP’s approach to significant matters, asserting that the party transforms every issue into a spectacle.
On the SIR controversy, Masood emphasized that distractions are often created to divert attention from more critical battles. “The real fight is being fought by Rahul Gandhi, and the outcomes of this struggle will stem from his efforts, not from any other distractions. The Election Commission has put the entire nation under scrutiny, breaking the trust built over 70 years with the actions of a single individual in power,” he remarked.
Masood launched a sharp critique against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, stating, “We will not allow Gyanesh Kumar to sit comfortably. He must answer for his actions.” He accused the BJP of disrespecting democracy, alleging that they govern through stolen votes. “In Bengal and Bihar, governments have been formed through fraudulent votes, undermining democracy,” he added.
Senior Congress leader Hussain Dalwai also weighed in, stating, “The questions raised by Congress are valid and concern the public. These issues, including vote theft, are significant. Dismissing them as trivial is unacceptable.”
In response to accusations from BJP minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, who claimed that booth rigging was rampant in the 1980s and 1990s, Masood reiterated the importance of integrity in elections.
Additionally, Akhilesh Yadav, the leader of the Samajwadi Party, posted on social media about the importance of unity in achieving electoral success, stating that the focus should not be on the number of seats but on ensuring a coalition victory. Masood responded, saying, “It’s great to focus on victory rather than seats. But without seats, how can there be a win? Victory is only possible if we secure the necessary seats.”
