Gandhinagar, September 9 (Daily Kiran) : The ninth session of the Gujarat Assembly commenced on September 9, 2026, in Gandhinagar. On the first day, the House paid tribute to five deceased legislators, both current and former. Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel reflected on their public service and contributions.
During the session, CM Patel presented a condolence motion for the late leaders, which included current member Yogesh Patel, former minister Mohansingh Rathwa, former state minister Lalit Kumar Patel, and ex-legislators Popatlal Patel and Sunilbhai Gavit. He expressed sorrow over their passing and recalled their dedication to serving the public.
Assembly Speaker Shankar Chaudhary, along with state ministers and members from the ruling and allied parties, also mourned the loss and honored the contributions of the departed leaders. Following this, a two-minute silence was observed in their memory, with prayers for the peace of their souls.
This tribute was part of the initial proceedings of the three-day assembly session, running from September 9 to 11. It marks the ninth session of the 15th Gujarat Assembly. Prior to the session, a meeting of the Business Advisory Committee, chaired by Speaker Shankar Chaudhary, discussed legislative matters and the schedule for various bills.
The meeting included CM Bhupendra Patel, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Rishikesh Patel, Finance Minister Kanubhai Desai, senior minister Kurjibhai Bawaliya, Congress legislative leader Tushar Chaudhary, and Deputy Leader of the House Shailesh Parmar. Government spokesperson Jitu Vaghani indicated that the committee discussed the order in which bills would be presented during the three-day session.
Additionally, discussions were held regarding condolence motions for the deceased legislators, in accordance with parliamentary and legislative procedures. The state government has listed nine bills for consideration during this session. Topics include agricultural universities, natural farming science, rental regulations, animal and poultry feed regulation, land revenue, prevention of agricultural land fragmentation, secondary and higher secondary education, ease of doing business, and issues related to the Goods and Services Tax (GST).
Throughout the three-day session, the state government will present these bills for discussion, while the opposition is preparing to raise various issues. The final order of legislative business will be determined by the Assembly Speaker and announced in the House.
