Mayawati Reviews Election Preparations in Uttarakhand, Expresses Concern Over Voter List Changes

BSP leader Mayawati holds a crucial meeting in Lucknow, focusing on election preparations and voter list issues in Uttarakhand.

Lucknow, October 4 (Daily Kiran) : BSP leader Mayawati held an important meeting with senior party officials in Lucknow on October 4, 2026, to assess preparations for the upcoming assembly elections in Uttarakhand. The discussions focused on the status of the voter list following the Election Commission‘s SIR review, the reorganization of party structures at the booth level, and the selection of strong candidates.

During the meeting, Mayawati stressed the need for ongoing efforts to ensure that marginalized groups, including the poor, youth, and women, do not lose their voting rights. She instructed party members to actively work on including these individuals in the voter list.

The meeting, held at the BSP’s central camp office on Mall Avenue, also reviewed organizational activities related to upcoming elections in Uttar Pradesh and Punjab. Mayawati emphasized the need to expedite the restructuring of party committees at polling booth levels and to address any shortcomings promptly.

According to the BSP, approximately nine lakh names have been removed from Uttarakhand’s voter list following the SIR review. Mayawati highlighted the importance of ensuring that particularly vulnerable groups retain their constitutional voting rights. She urged party workers to continue efforts to include these individuals in the voter list.

Mayawati also criticized the functioning of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government in Uttarakhand, accusing it of prioritizing the interests of wealthy capitalists over public welfare issues. She pointed out that attempts to influence elections through the financial power of big businesses are significant electoral concerns. She instructed party officials to effectively raise these issues among the public during the election preparations.

Additionally, the meeting addressed preparations for the commemoration of BSP founder Kanshiram’s death anniversary on October 9. Mayawati emphasized that the observance should reflect the mission-oriented spirit outlined in previous directives. Due to ongoing maintenance work at the Bahujan Prerna Kendra established by the BSP government on the UP-Delhi border, the gathering will not take place there this year to prevent potential accidents.

Mayawati announced that BSP workers and supporters from all divisions of Uttar Pradesh would gather in Lucknow to pay tribute at the Kanshiram memorial. In other states, party members will hold open discussions at the zonal level to honor Kanshiram.

She reiterated the need for the organization to be fully active in election mode, strengthening preparations at the booth level. Mayawati called for a swift process in candidate selection, voter list verification, and organizational structuring in light of the upcoming elections.
