Lucknow, July 23: Senior leader of the Samajwadi Party, Mata Prasad Pandey, has demanded the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan in response to student protests. He criticized the government over issues related to the Ayodhya Ram Temple donation case, proposed bulldozer actions against Mohammad Ali Jauhar University, and the ethanol-blended petrol controversy. Pandey accused the government of using police force to suppress democratic dissent and implementing bulldozer policies against educational institutions.
Pandey stated that the opposition was unable to voice its concerns within Parliament, prompting protests outside the Prime Minister’s residence. Leaders from the Samajwadi Party and Congress participated in this demonstration. The government appeared unsettled by the protests, deploying a large police presence to forcibly remove demonstrators and detain them.
He remarked that whether Dharmendra Pradhan resigns is an internal BJP decision, but the youth and the general public are demanding his resignation. The discontent among students is growing, and the government must address issues related to the education system.
Regarding the Special Investigation Team (SIT) formed to investigate the Ram Temple donation case, Pandey noted that the agency will likely uncover some facts. The alleged irregularities in this case are so numerous that revealing the complete truth may take years.
On claims about the Vishwa Hindu Parishad’s representative joining the Ram Temple Trust, Pandey asserted that any appointment to the trust must follow established procedures. No one can become a member of the trust unless the Chief Minister nominates them.
Concerning the proposed bulldozer action against Mohammad Ali Jauhar University, Pandey announced that a Samajwadi Party delegation would travel to Rampur in protest. He emphasized that the university is an educational institution and should not be demolished. The administration is using the lack of an approved map from the district panchayat as a basis for action, despite such processes often being overlooked in rural constructions. The government is selectively targeting certain institutions to harass them. The party’s delegation plans to meet with protesting students at Jauhar University, submit a memorandum to the District Magistrate (DM) to halt the bulldozer action, and urge the administration to reconsider the matter.
When questioned about ethanol-blended fuel, Pandey highlighted dissatisfaction among people in rural areas. He claimed that many vehicles have been damaged due to the use of ethanol-blended petrol, resulting in reduced mileage for motorcycles. The ethanol policy seems to benefit certain companies rather than the general public, indicating that the government’s approach favors industrial interests while neglecting consumer complaints.
