New Delhi, July 23: Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan emphasized on Wednesday that both the central and state governments are equal partners in strengthening school education. He was addressing a two-day conference of education ministers from states and union territories, held at the ICAR National Agricultural Science Complex (NASC) in New Delhi, to review centrally sponsored schemes under the Ministry of Education’s Department of School Education and Literacy (DoSEL).
In his address, Pradhan highlighted that the conference serves as a valuable platform to enhance collaboration between the center, states, and union territories. It aims to share best practices and accelerate the effective implementation of centrally sponsored schemes in line with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020. He noted that the discussions would further solidify the collective commitment to building a future-ready, inclusive, and high-quality school education system, contributing to the upcoming progress review led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Pradhan shed light on the advancements made in school education through initiatives like Samagra Shiksha, PM SHRI, Nipun Bharat, PM Poshan, and ULLAS. He urged states and union territories to work together to strengthen foundational literacy and numeracy, empower teachers, leverage technology and artificial intelligence, promote innovation, and ensure the holistic development of every learner towards the goal of a developed India by 2047. The minister also encouraged states to promote the mother tongue of children and multilingualism to enhance basic education and improve learning outcomes.
Addressing the conference, Minister of State for Education, Skill Development, and Entrepreneurship Jayant Chaudhary stressed the importance of collaborative efforts between the center, states, and union territories to strengthen school education and improve educational outcomes.
The conference aims to advance a shared vision for a uniform, inclusive, and quality school education system that contributes to achieving the goals of a developed India by 2047. Sessions focused on reinforcing the implementation of centrally sponsored schemes and improving educational outcomes. Education ministers from states and union territories reiterated the significance of center-state cooperation, knowledge sharing, and a shared commitment to ensuring equitable, inclusive, and quality education for every learner.
On the first day of the conference, Additional Secretary of the Education Department, Dheeraj Sahu, presented on key issues under the Samagra Shiksha and Progress Framework, while Deputy Director General Dr. Pankaj KP Shreyaskar provided insights on the status of educational indicators in states and union territories. Joint Secretary Dr. Amarpreet Duggal and Economic Advisor A. Shreeja also participated in the proceedings with senior officials from the central education ministry and states.
