Global Energy Crisis Drives Increase in Domestic LPG Prices

New Delhi, June 7: Central ministers and NDA leaders have attributed the recent increase in domestic LPG prices to the global energy crisis and rising international fuel costs. This statement from BJP leaders follows a ₹29 hike in the price of a 14.2 kg domestic LPG cylinder.

Union Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat noted that this increase is part of a broader global trend. He explained that global challenges have led to this crisis. Across the world, prices of petroleum products have surged between 30% to 130%, while LPG and CNG prices have escalated by 30% to 300%. All countries are feeling the impact of this global crisis, including India, where the entire supply chain has been disrupted.

BJP leader Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi described the situation as temporary. He emphasized that the world is currently facing multiple significant crises and challenges. The effects of the ongoing war are felt globally and cannot be overlooked. India has been affected and will continue to be so. However, he believes this is a temporary issue and should not be viewed as a permanent problem.

Bihar Minister Santosh Kumar Suman stated that the government will strive to mitigate the impact. He acknowledged that the price increase is linked to global factors and international trends. If prices have risen, he expressed confidence that efforts will be made to stabilize the situation. The Prime Minister and Finance Minister are certainly working towards finding solutions.

JD(U) national spokesperson Rajiv Ranjan Prasad remarked that global conditions are affecting all economies. He pointed out that while citizens in India are facing difficulties, people in many parts of the world are encountering even greater challenges. The global situation has become quite unusual, raising serious questions about the world economy.

These statements come after the ₹29 increase in domestic cooking gas LPG prices, which has raised the cost of a 14.2 kg LPG cylinder in Delhi from ₹913 to ₹942, according to industry sources. This hike follows a ₹60 increase in March. Oil marketing companies have been incurring continuous losses on subsidized domestic LPG sales due to rising global energy prices and supply disruptions.

Industry estimates indicate that government oil companies were previously losing about ₹703 per cylinder, and despite recent adjustments, petrol and diesel are still being sold below cost.
