Patna, June 8: On Monday, all nine candidates from the NDA, including Nishant Kumar of JD(U), submitted their nominations for the Bihar Legislative Council (MLC) elections. Sunil Singh from RJD also filed his nomination on the last day for submissions. If necessary, biennial elections for the nine seats in the Legislative Council are scheduled for June 18. Additionally, a by-election will be held for a seat that became vacant after former Chief Minister Nitish Kumar was elected to the Rajya Sabha.
The NDA, which includes BJP and JD(U), has nominated Bhojpuri actor Pawan Singh, Dr. Sanjay Mayukh, Anil Kumar Thakur, and Sheela Pandit for the 2026 biennial elections. JD(U) has also put forward Nishant Kumar, son of former Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, Dr. Bharti Mehta, the party’s state spokesperson, and Shivani Prajapati, a former chairperson of the West Champaran District Council.
JD(U) has decided to send Lalan Prasad to the Legislative Council as well. The LJP (Ram Vilas) has nominated Ashraf Ansari as their candidate. All these candidates submitted their nominations on Monday, with Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary, Union Minister Lalan Singh, Chirag Paswan, and several key leaders from NDA’s coalition present at the event. After arriving at the Legislative Assembly premises, Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary displayed a victory sign to claim the success of all NDA candidates.
According to the strength in the Assembly, the NDA is expected to secure victory in eight seats. From the Grand Alliance, RJD leader Sunil Singh has filed his nomination. However, questions have arisen within the party regarding his candidacy. Rohini Acharya, daughter of RJD President Lalu Yadav, has objected to Sunil Singh’s nomination, directly targeting Tejashwi Yadav’s leadership style, highlighting the internal rifts within the Grand Alliance.
