New Delhi, February 12: In a recent session of the Lok Sabha discussing the Central Budget for 2026-27, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman addressed comments made by Rahul Gandhi regarding the selling of the country. She asserted that no one has ever been born who could sell India, while also launching a sharp critique of the Congress party and the opposition.

On the topic of women’s safety, she highlighted a statement from a female Chief Minister suggesting that women should not venture out at night. Sitharaman criticized this as a failure of law enforcement in that state, blaming women instead. Referring to a recent incident of assault in Kolkata, she noted a lawmaker’s troubling comment about the perpetrators being friends, questioning the implications of such remarks.

Sitharaman also pointed out that the Communist regime has led to deteriorating law and order, deterring investment. She cited an industry group in Kerala that withdrew millions in investments due to the poor business environment.

She revealed alarming statistics regarding crimes against Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes in Kerala, stating that the state has the highest crime rates against these groups, according to NCRB data.

Responding to Rahul Gandhi’s claims about data leaving the country, Sitharaman clarified that the government is making provisions for data centers to keep data in India, which will create job opportunities for the youth.

The Finance Minister announced a budget allocation of ₹2.27 lakh crore for food subsidies, ensuring free rations for 80 crore people. She also mentioned a provision of ₹4,064 crore for industry setup by the Ministry of Food Processing.

Sitharaman questioned who the real sellers of the country are, recalling a 2013 WTO agreement made by Congress that would have restricted government purchases from farmers. She argued that if Prime Minister Modi had not intervened, farmers would have suffered greatly.

She emphasized that the Congress party is the true seller of the country, having compromised India’s interests at the WTO. She criticized opposition leaders for giving negotiation advice, recalling past agreements that undermined national security.

Sitharaman concluded by stating that no one has ever been born who could sell India, reaffirming that Prime Minister Modi would never allow such a thing to happen.

Additionally, she informed the Lok Sabha that the government plans to transfer ₹25.44 lakh crore to states during the fiscal year 2027, with an estimated total expenditure of ₹53.47 lakh crore for the 2026-27 budget. She explained that collected cesses and surcharges are allocated for development projects in various sectors, separate from the 41 percent of funds distributed to states.
