Chandigarh, September 4 (Daily Kiran) : In Chandigarh, the Punjab BJP president, Kailash Singh Dhillon, condemned the alleged police mistreatment of activist Mohanjeet Singh on September 4. Singh had directly raised concerns about drug issues in the state during a meeting with the Chief Minister.
Dhillon spoke with Singh via video call, expressing support for his efforts to protect youth from drugs. He stated that the BJP stands firmly with Singh during this challenging time and is committed to ensuring he receives justice.
The BJP leader also mentioned that he contacted the Senior Superintendent of Police and the Director General of Police in Sangrur, demanding a fair investigation into the alleged assault and torture Singh faced. He emphasized the party’s dedication to supporting youth and noted that Daman Thind Bajwa, the district president of Sangrur, is working with her team to assist the victim.
Dhillon asserted that Singh had not engaged in any illegal activities; rather, he had raised a critical issue about drug abuse and the need to safeguard young people. He highlighted that every citizen has the right to question the government and voice their concerns in a democracy.
However, he criticized the government’s decision to detain Singh for addressing drug issues, describing the reported assault and humiliation as “deeply unfortunate and condemnable.” Dhillon raised serious questions about the Punjab government’s claims regarding its campaign against drugs, arguing that it has failed to effectively tackle this pressing problem.
Instead of attempting to silence youth through police action, Dhillon urged the government to listen to and support those speaking out against drugs. He accused the Aam Aadmi Party government, which was formed on the basis of public protests and struggles, of now fearing the very voices it claims to represent.
He concluded by stating that the government is trying to suppress public dissent and using force against those who dare to ask questions.
