Pantnagar, March 14: Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami inaugurated the 119th All India Kisan Mela and Agricultural Industry Exhibition at G.B. Pant University on Saturday. He emphasized that farmers will play a decisive role in achieving the vision of a ‘Developed India’ by 2047.
CM Dhami stated that our farmers are not only providers of food but also our heroes, ensuring that people have access to essential grains. Through the Kisan Samman Nidhi scheme, farmers across the country are receiving financial assistance. In Uttarakhand, 900,000 farmers are directly receiving this honorarium in their bank accounts. Under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership, farmers are being provided fair prices for their crops.
The Chief Minister also mentioned that safety nets are being offered to farmers against losses due to natural disasters and weeds. Inspired by Prime Minister Modi, our government is continuously working for the prosperity of farmers. Loans of up to three lakh rupees are being made available to farmers without interest. Subsidies for purchasing agricultural equipment are provided through the Farm Machinery Scheme.
He added that the government has initiated a project costing ₹1,200 crores to enhance fruit production, including apples, kiwis, dragon fruit, and the State Millet Mission. To promote horticulture in the state, an 80% subsidy is also being offered. Our state has reached the eighth position in honey production in the country, showcasing immense potential in beekeeping.
The 119th All India Kisan Mela and Agricultural Industry Exhibition will run until March 16, focusing on the theme ‘Empowered Women – Prosperous Farming.’ Farmers will gain access to advanced seeds, the latest agricultural innovations, and technical information related to millet cultivation.
The exhibition will feature advanced seeds for paddy, horticulture, and vegetables. The latest innovations in agricultural research will also be showcased. This year, the university is placing special emphasis on millets, focusing on the growing importance of traditional crops like Kodo, Jhingora, and Mandua. Given the potential high market prices for these crops, scientists will provide technical information to farmers.
