Environmental Protection Must Become a Peoples Movement: Sukhu

Shimla, June 5: On World Environment Day, Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhu extended greetings to the residents and urged them to fulfill their responsibilities towards environmental conservation. He emphasized that this day serves as a crucial reminder of our obligations to nature.

Chief Minister Sukhu highlighted that Himachal Pradesh is blessed with invaluable gifts from nature. The state’s dense forests, clean rivers, snow-capped mountains, and rich biodiversity are its identity. It is a collective responsibility to preserve these natural resources.

He called upon the people to plant more trees and actively participate in environmental protection campaigns. Sukhu stated that planting a tree is not just about safeguarding the environment; it lays the foundation for a secure future for the coming generations. He urged citizens to develop love and sensitivity towards nature, stressing that making environmental protection a people’s movement is essential. He expressed confidence that with the support of the people, Himachal Pradesh can become a model state for environmental conservation in the country.

In a post on X, he wrote, “Himachal’s identity resides in its majestic mountains, pristine water streams, and pure air. Nature has bestowed upon us this unique heritage. It is not only our duty to preserve it but also our commitment to future generations. Let us work together to maintain the sanctity and prosperity of this legacy.”

Meanwhile, during a mini-marathon held at the Ridge Ground, Himachal Pradesh Governor Kivendra Gupta addressed the media regarding the use of loudspeakers and noise pollution. He stated that community involvement is essential for the success of any campaign. Without active participation from society, such efforts cannot achieve the desired success.

The Governor noted the positive outcomes of various departments and officials connecting the community with this campaign. He emphasized that only through active societal participation can awareness campaigns be advanced.

On the issue of litter and plastic pollution highlighted on World Environment Day, the Governor stated that collective efforts are necessary to address this problem. He urged people to keep their homes and surroundings clean, asserting that change should begin with oneself. He also encouraged organizers to fulfill their responsibilities towards environmental protection.

Regarding the census, the Governor mentioned that the central government has provided self-enumeration facilities from June 1 to June 15. He appealed to citizens to verify themselves and register. He noted that census data will play a crucial role in advancing the country’s development plans and progress, urging everyone to actively participate in this process.
