Main Accused in Delhi Building Collapse Still at Large as Police Intensify Search

New Delhi, September 10 (Daily Kiran) : In a tragic incident in South Delhi’s Satya Niketan, the main suspect in a building collapse remains at large. Police sources reported on Thursday that they are intensifying their search for Shubham Tyagi, the operator of the “Hostel Days” PG facility, who has been missing since the incident.

The collapse of the five-story building resulted in the deaths of seven individuals, including five students and two laborers, with five others sustaining injuries. Authorities have arrested five people in connection with the case thus far.

Investigators have sent the mobile phone of arrested suspect Sudhanshu Lownish for forensic analysis. They are closely examining his call records, chats, and other digital data to determine whom he contacted immediately after the collapse and what was discussed. These digital pieces of evidence are expected to shed light on the negligence and conspiracy behind the incident.

Reports indicate that significant construction and repair work was underway on the ground floor on the day of the collapse. In an attempt to create space for a shop, a wall on the ground floor was reportedly removed. This construction work, aimed at commercial gain, weakened the building’s foundation.

Moreover, following several days of rain, debris and water had accumulated in the basement. After clearing it, repair work commenced, and investigators found that three truckloads of debris were allegedly dumped to raise the basement level to that of the ground floor, adding extra pressure on the structure.

To date, police have arrested Mahesh, the owner’s son, labor contractor Sanoj Kumar, and PG operator Sudhanshu Lownish. The building’s owner, 81-year-old Hariram Gupta, and his 75-year-old wife, Urmila, are also in judicial custody. Police revealed that Shubham Tyagi and Sudhanshu jointly operated the “Hostel Days” PG, leasing four floors of the building for a monthly rent of ₹1.05 lakh in August 2025.

To capture the fugitive Shubham Tyagi, police have formed multiple teams and are conducting raids across various states, including Haryana, Rajasthan, and Uttar Pradesh. Authorities are confident that the suspect will be apprehended soon, and they plan to file a chargesheet linking all aspects of the case.
